John Masterton Ceramics

I make pots.

I make work to be used. I find satisfaction in the fact that someone likes a piece so much that they want to own it. It's then up to them to decide what to do with it!

My pots are made using the wheel, and use simple glazes made with iron and copper to provide rich colours. At the moment I am using porcelain, and my work is influenced by the wonderful copper red and celadon glazes from the Imperial Chinese ceramics in the Percival David Collection, now in the British Museum.

I fire with flames, because, for me, the transformation through fire is a vital part of the process, an alchemical transmutation of base materials into something precious.
